Generally recognized as the engineering discipline that offers the broadest choice of technical career paths, Mechanical Engineering can lead you down paths other majors cannot. Mechanical engineers work in all facets of industry developing technologies for nearly every product we use.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is devoted to educating well-rounded engineers. Along with providing a framework for analytical thinking through courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, mechanics, materials, and thermal fluids sciences, Western New England University also offers numerous electives that allow you to pursue your interests.

At Western New England University, you begin your education as an engineer in your very first semester. Our First Year Program helps you make the transition from high school or another college. Peer advisors and upper-class student mentors help you find your way around campus, explore clubs and activities, and manage your time.

Labs: Open to You From Day One

Students at larger engineering schools typically spend the majority of their first year in massive lecture halls, studying theory and getting lost in the crowd. That is not the case at Western New England University. All of Sleith Hall’s engineering labs and equipment are available to all students from the first day you begin classes at the College of Engineering. You will be encouraged to form study groups and to make our labs your second home. All of our equipment is intended for undergraduate use, and students have access to computers and equipment in the laboratories, which are open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 midnight.

Internships and Special Opportunities

We encourage all of our students to apply for internships and research experience for undergraduates (REUs).

Athletics and Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering has a long history of producing successful student-athletes.

Senior Design Projects

All students must complete a Senior Design Project in order to graduate. The range of topics is incredibly wide. Some projects are sponsored by industry and some are initiated by faculty members. Perhaps the best senior projects are those initiated by the students themselves!

Aside from being excellent networking opportunities with future employers, the Senior Design Project themselves are industrial strength undertakings that involve proposals, review, formal presentations, and ordering necessary parts—not to mention having to plan for contingencies if parts do not arrive.

ABET and Accreditation

The Mechanical Engineering degree major at Western New England University is proud to be accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, Inc., the recognized accreditor of college and university programs in applied science, computing, engineering, and technology.
